Evaluation Question 3

From our audience feedback focus group we had a lot of positive responses talking about the humour involved in the video. This is the response we desired from our audience. The lip syncing and acting was also well received, which we are glad about as it reflects the effort we put into it.

The only real improvement that could have been made would have been to have a drum kit, this would have made our video look more professional.

We also made an online survey on SurveyMonkey, these are our results presented in graph form.

This shows us that our video, which was aimed at teenagers, was rightly received and that the standard of the video was good according to the participants of the survey. They also thought that the lip syncing and acting was to a good standard.

There are still negative comments in this survey as there were ratings of 5 and 6, which is nit good enough, if i had more time I would investigate and do another survey asking about what improvements could be made.

Focus Group Findings - Analysing Similar products

In our focus group we were compared to many bands including Busted, Mcfly and Two door cinema club. As we established this as our target audience we looked at a video from one of the bands mentioned. Two Door Cinema Club - Something Good Can Work is the video that we looked at, we saw a very interesting use of colour and a lot of band shots. We used both of these aspects in our video, with the use of many colours of boxes, and we used a lot of band scene shots. As we are targeting the same sort of audience of two door cinema club, we thought it would be useful to mirror a lot of what they do to please the viewers of our video.

Montage Theory

These pictures make it seem as if the vegetables have a relevance to our penis sizes, this is due to the lyric "we're showing our sizes, the f***ing surprises, that yours hasn't grown"

Graphic Match

We included a graphic match in our video to add effect and show the parallel between the 3 boys and 3 girls that they are not actually very different from each other.

Emailing 'The Midnight Beast'

The lead singer of TMB's mum emailed me back when I requested using the song, she asked for me to send them a link when the film is finished, which is what I done, this is the reply I received

Individual Contribution

In our group I:
- obtained the music by emailing 'The Midnight Beast'
- Acted as 2 characters in the video
- Directed most of the video
- obtained props e.g. wigs, pizza
- Filmed some scenes
- co-editted the whole video

Audience Research - Our Audience

From our audience research I have gathered our audience will be both boys and girls between the ages of 14-20. We have used this in our video by using teenage characters and a very upbeat, fast paced tune.

To extend our target audience we could release a number of different advertisements, all aiming at different age groups, this means more people would watch the video and buy the album, increasing sales.

I feel the video would be shown on MTV as it is a very young persons channel, and would be shown between 6-9pm as that is when teenagers are most likely to watch the channel.

Final Use of Props

In the end we decided not to act out every part of the video as it says it but to select a few to act out. This is a list of the props we used and when we used them:

In the line "I want to play Cluedo with my bros" we used pretend pipes.

In the line "When Noah kisses Sally in the Notebook" we all had tissues and were crying

In the line "From legally blonde" two of the characters had blonde wigs on

In the line "Want to snuggle up watching Brokeback Mountain" two of the characters had cowboy hats on

In the line "I want to have cheese pepperoni" We had a character eating pizza

We had a male character wearing a wig throughout the girls scene

We used 3 mobile phones at the start f the video

In the band scene we used 2 guitars, a microphone and a xylophone

In the line "we're showing our sizes, the f***ing surprises, that yours hasn't grown" we used a cucumber, carrot and Brussel sprout

We used boxes in the band scene throughout, which had "B", "OO", "T" and "Y" on, we had 2 of each of these boxes in a variety of colours.

In the final parts of the video we used socks to stuff down the fake girls top, to act as fake breasts, these were pulled out for comedic effect.

Our Digipak ideas

An idea for the frontpage of our digipak is the 3 band members each with either a head, torso or legs of a beast, this will have midnight background to mirror the name of the band, the midnight beast. This is based on the idea of the 'Misfits' game cover.

Filming the band scene

We filmed our band scene in the drama room of our school, the room has lighting effects which we used to great effect in our filming. We filmed from 4 different angles, one shot of the whole band, and one of each band member close up.
